How Effective Is Alprex In COPD Patients?

Hi my father is having severe COPD . He is admitted in a hospital since last 7 days.His SpO2 levels is around 88-91%. He is having lot of anxiety and discomfort. The doctor has prescribed him alprex two times a day . Is it o.k. He is not able to sleep at all without them.

I can understand your father's situation and problem.
Yes, alprax is good drug for COPD patient.
Alprax is having alprazolam. It is having in sleep initiation. It is not causing prolong sedation. So it is safe in COPD patients.
Hypercarbia (raised carbon dioxide) is the most cause for insomnia in COPD patients.
So better to get done ABG (arterial blood gas) analysis to rule out Hypercarbia.
If this is present and not treated, even alprax will not give him sound sleep.
So discuss about hypercarbia with his doctor and if present than first treat it.
