How Effective Is The Contraceptive Pill Regestrone?
Hello doctor,I have crossed over 40 days from my last due date. Now i have consulted the doctor and they prescribed me to take regestrone 5mg for 6 days to prevent pregnancy. Because, they are not very sure about my pregnancy. What is the use of this tablet? Can we take the prescribed tablet or we will wait for another 10 days without taking the tablet?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, I understand your concern. 40 days overdue period in child bearing age 1st cause is chance of pregnancy. There are many more causes of such delay apart from pregnancy. Regestrone is a hormonal contraceptive, which also leads to withdrawal bleeding within 10 days of stopping tablet, in case delay in period is not due to pregnancy. Once the bleeding occurs, patient is investigated for basic cause of delay & specific is given thereafter. * Before you take regestrone it's essential to exclude pregnancy. As Regestrone does not have any effect for removing pregnancy. ..rather it has bad effects on growing baby& so if Regestrone like drug is taken in pregnancy by mistake doctors advise termination of pregnancy. Thanks.
