Hi & Welcome to HCM.
I appreciate your concern for the efficacy of
tubal ligation in preventing
pregnancy.
Tubal ligation is about 99% effective in preventing pregnancy.
There is a slight risk of becoming pregnant after tubal ligation. This risk then increases with the age, after a total of 5 years following tubal ligation, about 5 out of 1,000 women can become pregnant.
The tubes grow back together or a new passage forms (recanalization) that allows an egg to be fertilized by sperm. Most pregnancies occurring after ligation are ectopic in nature, meaning that the pregnancy occurs at the
fallopian tube instead of the
uterus.
The symptoms what you are experiencing may be due to "FALSE PREGNANCY". The classical symptoms of pregnancy can last for just a few weeks, for nine months, or even more.
Certain conditions can mimic the symptoms of pregnancy, including ectopic pregnancy,
morbid obesity, and cancer.
You may repeat the test again after a couple of days on the early morning urine sample to clear your doubt.
Since, the urine
pregnancy tests were negative on repeated occasions I would advise you to consult a gynecologist to evaluate your symptoms, perform a pelvic exam and abdominal
ultrasound.
In a case of false pregnancy, no fetus will be seen on the ultrasound, and there won't be any heartbeat.
Besides, the doctor will also conduct tests to rule out the rare possibility of cancer that may be the cause of producing the classic symptoms of pregnancy.
