My wife is almost 60 days Pregnant, during initial (45 days) Blood test itself we found TSH is 10.33(Beyond the normal value). Our doctor asks her to take Eltroxin 50mcg. It is Ok for Baby. Or any risk is there in Pregnancy and child health? Our doctor informs us there will be risk in baby life due to thyroid (On my wife blood)? Eltroxin 50 mcg is enough to bring down the Thyroid level from 10.33 to Normal or we need to increase the Dosage? How many days it will take to bring down TSH 10.33 to Normal , If she take Eltroxin 50Mcg Regularly in Empty stomake? In which Frequency we need to take blood test for TSH? Which foods she can take & avoid Due to High TSH? Any other method is there to control the thyroid levels? If any Specialized doctor available in Chennai for Pregnancy related Thyroid Treatment. Kindly recommend us. Please reply to our entire query
Hi, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. Decreased thyroid activity leads to increase in TSH hormone and is confirmatory of hypothyroidism. This can cause mental retardation and growth restriction in fetus, if not treated in time. The dose of Eltroxin is increased based on thyroid hormone levels, which are evaluated every6 weekly till the values are normal, and then2 weekly. Hope you found the answer helpful. Wishing you good health. Dr Deepti Verma
