How Hard The Recovery Is Going To Be After Spleen Removal And Reversal Of Colonoscopy?
I AM SCHEDULED TO HAVE SPLEEN REMOVED AND REVERSE A COLONOSCOPY AT THE SAME TIME. HOW HARD IS RECOVERY GOING TO BE? MY COLONOSCOPY WAS AN EMERGENCY SURGERY DONE IN FEBRUARY. I HAD TO HAVE A LOT OF BLOOD AND DUE TO A DELAYED REACTION TO THE TRANFUSIONS AM STEPPING DOWN FROM FROM PREDNISONE. ALSO I AM A VERY ACTIVE 72 YEAR OLD.
Hi,welcome to Healthcaremagic . I understand your situation before the surgery.I guess from your history that the surgery You mentioned is Colostomy not colonoscopy, as reversal is done for colostomy.I would like to assure you that these surgeries are done routinely and you will not feel much discomfort but I would like to mention few things that You may face routinely after abdominal surgeries so that you could be prepared. 1)As this surgery is on intestines they may not allow any thing orally for a certain period depending on your condition but till then the requirements of your body are met through IV fluids or giving nutritive substances through your veins 2)Every surgery will have post surgery pain but with the pain management drugs available doctors are well equipped to control that. 3)One of the functions of spleen is to protect the body from infections, therefore You will be given vaccinations to protect you from common and dangerous infections. You have to take booster doses for those vaccines as per advice of your doctor and be more careful than before if you get fewer and seek quick medical advice. At the end I want to mention that every surgery is associated with few complications rarely and doctors are capable of handling them.I wish all the best for You. Hope this answers the question.Thank You.
