Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I just had double jaw surgery almost a month ago. I haven t smoked in 3 weeks but the last 3 days I have slipped up but only about 3 cigs a day. Now the roof of my mouth feels cold and my cheeks are sore and im so nervous that my jaw is going to die. I m only 18 and overall no other health problems. Do you think I m just scaring myself?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain smoking after the double jaw surgery can become a cause for delayed healing as smoke and heat can cause inflammation and necrosis of the , the healing might have been tissues involved in surgery that are already inflamed and in a healing stage..
As it is already 3 weeks of your surgery there might be sufficient healing by now and soreness and cold feeling after smoking is due to the effect of smoke and heat and there is no such need to worry as the jaw will not get damaged so soon with smoking once or twice..
But inorder to achieve faster and good recovery you should quit smoking and should take proper aseptic precautions, proper medications and a nutritious diet..
As of now there is nothing serious so do not worry..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora..
