How Is COPD Treated?

copd patient. on formonide 400, tiate inhaler and ab phylline for last 2 yrs. pft is stable not deteriorating, for how long will i be on treatment. can it be cured. if i forget taking inhalers or ab phylline once in a while , can it cause serious damage.

Thanks for your question on HCM. COPD needs multidimensional approach for treatment. Treatment follows like this.
1. Cessation of smoking if you are smoker. This is the fundamental part of treatment.
2. Inhaled treatment. You are on good drugs so continue with the same.
3.Enroll in Pulmonary rehabilitation programme where chest physiotherapy is done.
4. Vaccinate yourself with respiratory vaccines like pneumococcal and h.influenza for prevention of infection in future.
Simultaneous application of above all steps is needed for better control of COPD.
And it is acceptable if you miss inhaler done once in a while.
