How Is A Clavicle Bone Lump To Be Treated?

I m a 49 yr old white female. I was diagnosed as being hypothyroid nearly 10 years ago. Last December and January I had two bouts of tonsillitis within about 6 weeks of each other. At the time I noticed swelling on right side of my neck, but dismissed it due to the infected tonsils. Plus at the time I was overweight. I have since lost weight and on Friday last week notice a lump right on my right clavicle bone at the base of my throat. I saw my family Dr. today and had blood work and x-rays done. The lump does not hurt or interfere with head movement. I would guess it to be about 1 1/2 inches across. I have noticed that my voice seems a little froggy at times, but I also suffer from seasonal allergies. People often ask me if I am sick or did i wake you up? when they call. Telemarketers address me as Mr. when i answer the phone. I have done lots of reading over the past few days. My Dr. sweet as he says I probably just bumped the bone . I think if i had bumped the bone I d have also had a broken nose... any suggestions and should I be concerned about this? The more I read the more scared I am getting.

Hello,

You have past history of hypothyroidism and tonsillitis. Presently, you noticed a lump on the right side of the clavicle at the base of your throat. The lump does not hurt you but you seem to have froggy voice at times. You also suffer from seasonal allergy. Lumps on the collar bone are commonly caused by injury, infection and cysts. Lumps are caused by injury/ fracture, infection, lymph nodes, cysts, tumors, etc. Treatment will depend on the cause of the lump. Tumors may need to be surgically removed, depending on whether they are cancerous or not.

Enlarged lymph nodes are go away on their own with rest and fluids. but if the cause is infection it is treated by giving a course of antibiotics. In case of fracture, it is treated by giving arm support, rest, pain management and physical therapy. You are suggested to get clinically examined by an orthopedics, get all tests and investigations, imaging tests done so that the cause is detected & treatment started at the earliest.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
