Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I just did my first ultrasound today. I thought that the baby was 8 weeks based on my lmp and the ultrasound age is 5 and a half weeks. The clinic took my blood to look at my hcg but didn t explain anything to me. I don t know what to think. is this a missed miscarriage? was the time wrong? how could it be that different? i know that i conceived the child 5 weeks ago and i was positive on the pregnancy test 3 weeks ago. the math doesn t make sense to me. can you help please?
The age of the baby calculated by ultrasound is the most accurate. Dating based on the LMP is an approximation based on the time of your last period. The due date is calculated by adding 9 months and 7 days from your LMP. However, the most accurate method is based on your Ultrasound. I do not think you have any need to worry at this point. The 5 and a half weeks is an accurate estimate to go by.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pranav Balakrishnan, General & Family Physician
