How Is A Stroke Different From Seizures?

Stroke vs seizure..... A person was eating out for dinner.... While ordering she wasn t making sense at times. She orders and while sitting there she looks up and just falls out of her chair. She is unconscious but no visible shaking just no response. She goes to hospital by ambulance and she is not responsive for about 1hour. Then opening her eyes slightly...but does not respond to pain on left side. 2 CT scans show nothing, but she can speak a little, one word, but still has lots of weakness on left side. Is it stoke or seizure?

Hi

Welcome to HealthcareMagic

Very good query .
This differentiation between seizure and stroke confuses clinicians
Let me tell it is stroke, points in favor being stroke are
1 Making no sense while ordering.
2 Just falls out of bed
3 Unconscious with response and no shaking of body
4 No response for 1 hour
5 No sensation on left side
6 Speak a little and weakness on left side

Now confusion is that no CT finding
yes sometimes ct start giving finding after 6 hours after start of episode And CT scan may be normal in a few .
It may be a mini stroke as TIA transient ischemic attack. In epilepsy the point 1 ..5 ..6 will not be there even in complex partial seizure .With my clinical experience it is stroke, woman must be hypertension or diabetic.
