How Is Dengue Fever Diagnosed?

I was hospitalized 9yrs ago in Asia, with dengue fever...is there a test that can identify if I still have it in my system?(I presented with hypothyroiditis since and am now Hashimoto s with antibodies. My mother in law got it at the same time and has had the same thyroid condition since as well. I am looking into triggers and doing what I can to eliminate them and clean up ;)

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Thyroiditis a very rare complication of dengue fever, although usually it is not of hashimotos type, and resolves in few months. Even if it was caused by dengue, there is no point in doing dengue test now, as it like a hit and run type insult- dengue would have resolved completely shortly thereafter, but leaving thyroiditis there.

Nobody can survive for 9 years without clearing dengue infection. Tests done for diagnosing dengue is NS-1 antigen, and IgM dengue.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam TK, Pediatrician
