Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My grown daughter thirty two has developed shingles. My wife has stage four breast cancer receiving chemo. my wife helps with the infant grand children after school till my daughter gets home from work. My wife is very susceptible to infection Can the children carry the shigles virus between mother and grand mother........ the infants have had chicken pox shots. YYYY@YYYY
Shingles itself is not transmitted, but the virus causing shingles can be transmitted. The virus is transmitted by direct contact. The virus is only transmitted when the rash appears, once the rash crusts, or disappears the person is no more transmitting it.
As said its only transmitted by direct contact, she can handle the child, however, being on chemotherapy and immunocompromised she must avoid contact with the patient until the shingles crusts or disappears.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman, General & Family Physician
