Initial treatment for ulcerative colitis base on the severity and extent. First choice we use oral plus rectal Masalamine(5-ASA) use for 8 weeks.
For a patient with mild to moderate who do not tolerate or who have an inadequate response to the combined oral and rectal Mesalamine, we suggest Budesonide.
We use Budesonide 9mg daily for 8 weeks was significant effective in patient with ulcerative colitis. There were no signs with this steroid-related side effect.
In patients, some severe symptoms and those who fail to respond to Budesonide, we suggest oral Prednisolone.
A patient who has an inadequate response to Glucocorticoids should be carefully evaluated to determine the cause for persistent symptoms.
You should go to see a specialist Doctor.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
