How Long After Appendectomy Does It Take For Bilirubin Levels To Normalize?

Hi, my husband had a open emergency appendectomy almost 6 weeks ago. The day of surgery his bilirubin was 4.6, a blood test last week (not fasting) showed it down to 1.8. All other liver functions are good, he is scheduled for a ultrasound tomorrow and more blood work at the end of the month as a precaution. However since he also just had open heart surgery in April every little thing makes me worry, how long after appendectomy does it usually take for bilirubin levels to return to normal?

Hi welcome to the health care magic

You have been treated for acute appendicitis by appendisectomy operation...

Your doctor is doing investigation in right way...

Although you are improving (bilirubin level reducing), cause for elevated bilirubin should be searched by peripheral smear examination, USG abdomen, PT, APTT, sgpt, sgot etc . .
If specific cause found than treated accordingly...

Appendisectomy operation is not here probably cause for elevated bilirubin..

Sugar cane juice, carrots, green leafy vegetables, lemon juice, coconut water will be beneficial

Take care

Consult physician for examination with keeping all this in mind

Hope your concern solved
