Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How Long Can Miralax Be Taken For The Treatment Of IBS?
I have suffered with IBS for many years. I started using Miralax awhile ago and are having excellent results, softer more regular bowel movements. Do I need to stop now after such good results, can I continue using Miralax indefinitely? I could use some guidance. Thanks
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
The literature says not to use Miralax drug continuously for too long, but if your clinician feels that it is helping with none of the side effects showing up, you could continue with his opinion in mind.
Additionally, take a higher fiber diet (lots of fruits, muesli and things like that) and drink more fluids than you normally do. These should also help with the bowel movements.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Pranav Balakrishnan
