How Long Do Bisacodyl And Gavilyte-N Take To Clean The Bowel?
Took a bisacodyl at 10:00 Began drinking gavilyte-N at noon, 8 oz. every half hour. How long does it take before I ll see any results? Just curious. Other preps have been brutal to me by now Don t want tomorrow s procedure cancelled if I m not cleaned out
Hi & Welcome. The time of onset of action depends upon the type of laxative and the route used. 1. Bisacodyl is a stimulant laxative used to treat constipation and to clean out the intestines before a bowel examination/surgery.
If taken by mouth it should produce a bowel movement within 6 to 12 hours. Given through the rectum it can produce much faster results. You should have a bowel movement within 15 to 60 minutes after using a rectal suppository, or within 5 to 20 minutes after using the rectal enema.
2. GaviLyte-N is a stronger laxative used for bowel cleansing prior to colonoscopy. If taken in the dose of 8 ounces every 15 to 30 minutes the first bowel movements should occur approximately one hour after the start of administration. Continue drinking until the watery stool is clear and free of solid matter.
Since these medications may cause loss of excessive fluids, you must take adequate fluid replacement to prevent dehydration.
Hope this will be helpful. Best regards.
