How Long Do Antibiotics Take To Reduce Cold And Asthma?

my 11 year old son, who is asthmatic, has just completed a course of augmentin and prelone, However, he is still has a cold. He also uses seretide and ventolin inhalers, as well as aerius. How long does it take for the antibiotics to work? Should I take him back to see the doctor?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello.

Antibiotics generally begin to work in about two days.

A cold--if that's all he has now--being a viral illness, won't respond to antibiotics.

So if he's still ill, he should see the doctor again.
