Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi. I am having kidney stone pain off and on that goes from right side of back around to right flank and down into the groin area. How long does it usually take to pass a stone? I have had several stones before but had lithotripsy done and passed them fast. Thank you
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern... Passage of kidney stones in urine depends upon many factors as below:- 1 size of stone- Size of stone is very important. A smaller stone has high chances of passage into urethra than a larger one. As you have undergone lithotripsy, therefore larger stones must have broken into smaller fragment & therefor chances of passage should be high. 2. Prostrate size is also important factor influencing passage of stones in males. In patients with prostrate enlargement passage of stones becomes difficult. 3. Patients who have passed stones before have more chances of passing them again than those who have never passed stones in urine.
Therefore exact time taken for passage of stones could not be predicted. You could increase intake of water. It would help you in passage of kidney stones
Refer to a Urologist Hope this information helps
