How Long Do Onion Chemicals Remain In The System?

I cut raw onions and consumed them fried on Friday. Today it s Monday and I can still smell them on my hands. My gf yesterday also told me my breath smells of onions. Do the onion chemicals stay in the body for so long? And does this apply even if I touched but did not consume raw onions?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
No the onion smell does not stay on your hand or in your mouth for this much duration unless you have not properly brushed your mouth or washed your hand. If this is happening first time, you use good mint or pudina flavored toothpaste.
But if you are having this problem frequently then you should improve your oral hygiene. Visit a dentist and examine your oral cavity for dental caries. He will prescribe you appropriate medication for foul breathe.
