Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 19 yr old son has been diagnosed with pleurisy 4 or 5 times in less than 6 months. He was prescribed with steroids each time & was given a steroid shot once & a pain medicine (which doesn t seem to help much) and the most recent time he went (which was about 2 weeks ago), he was prescribed with an antibiotic. He feels like the pain is coming back again! He has seen a family physician each time except for when he went to the ER which I m sure was a general physician also. For this to be reoccurring so often, does he need to see a Pulmonologist instead of a general/family physician?
First of all, it's sad to know what you had been going through lately.
Based on the history you have shared, the frequent attacks of pleurisy are not good and you should get your son's X-ray and ultrasound of chest and get consultation of a Pulmonologist.
He might be having any underlying lung disease causing symptoms of pleurisy like tuberculosis or pneumonia.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
