How Long Do Swollen And Painful Lymph Nodes Take To Get Treated?
Good evening. My daughter has the flu and mono. She was given steroid prescription yesterday (6 pills yesterday, 5 day, 4 tomorrow, etc) to help alleviate some of the pain associated with her swollen lymph nodes in her neck. The lymph nodes are still so swollen and painful to touch. How long before the swelling will go down?
It looks like you have infection and inflammation of the lymph nodes that is secondary to viral infection leading to swelling.. Steroids can help in reducing swelling in 3-4 days but if there is infection a course of antibiotics and anti inflammatory painkillers should be advised.. As of now you can continue the course of steroids and and in case if the swelling and pain is still present you should consult an Emergency room and they can advise her antibiotics and anti inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen for relief.. Do cool compresses over the swelling and do warm saline gargles.. Take a soft diet and sip warm water..
Hope this helps..
Regards..
