Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I starting taking levquin last Sunday and my last pill was this past Thursday (total days on med was 7) I am having some side effects from taking levaquin this week. On day 2 sleepless nights, 3 headache and day 7 aches, pains & dizziness .... how long can side effects last or new ones occur after taking this drug?
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Levaquin contains 'levofloxacin' is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic which is used to treat bacterial infections. Levofloxacin is excreted largely as unchanged drug in the urine. The mean terminal plasma elimination half-life of levofloxacin ranges from approximately 6 to 8 hours following single. The drug and its metabolite should get cleared of the body by 72 hours. In case you are experiencing symptoms even after a week, it would be better to get yourself evaluated by seeking medical attention promptly. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
