How Long Do The Stitches Stay In For The Large Dog Bite On Calf All The Way To Bone ?

My husband got a large dog bite on his calf all the way to the bone but not involving tendons. It was about 4 inches diameter open hole. They put muscle back over and stitched with some nylon. Doesn t get seen for 1 week. How long do stitches stay in? Ok to put weight on it or is rest better? Taking antibiotics but doesn t like narcotics and if he does the pain is still 8-10/10.

Hi
Usually the stitches are to be removed on day 12 after seeing the skin gapping. The antibiotic should be taken for 7 days.
If you dont have any pain no need to take narcotic or analgesic pain killer.
I dont think you need complete bed rest till you get your stitch removed you can do your routine activities in house and on office too.
Get well soon.
Thank you.
