Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I just left the dr. office with a prescription for acyclovir 400 mg and a topical acyclovir 5% ointment. I am at the very beginning stage of getting a large cold sore on the middle part of my bottom lip. It has not yet blistered, but the area has some swelling and some redness. How long can I expect the medicine to take to work? If there is no blister formed yet, and I have started the medication, will a blister form at all? Many Thanks.
Acyclovir is an antiviral medication commonly used to treat herpes infections, including genital herpes, cold sores, and shingles. The time it takes for Acyclovir to show its effects can vary depending on the specific condition being treated and the individual's response to the medication.
Individual responses to Acyclovir may vary, and the timing of its effects can depend on factors such as the severity of the infection, overall health, and the individual's immune response. Follow the prescribed dosage and duration of treatment as directed by your healthcare provider for optimal results.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Muhammad Umer Farooq, General & Family Physician
