Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My dad is 82years old. He had been on Dilantin for 15 years for seizures. In July he was admitted to the hospital with what they said was toxic levels. It was 60. They did what they called weaned him off the Dilantin and put him on keppra. In the past three weeks he has been to the hospital e r several times. His motor actions were out of control, slurred speech and he was unable to walk. Labor Day weekend was spent in the hospital where he was tested for several different things trying to find out what was going on. The conclusion they came to was that the Dilantin is still to blame. They ve put him on haldol for two weeks. I ve seen no improvement. He is very depressed and his eyes, speech and throat are still bad. Is there anyway to know if this is the right treatment and if so how long should it take for the Dilantin to leave his system? Thanks for any info
