How Long Does Doxycycline Remain In The System?

I have been taking doxycycline and I have arranged to have blood taken in my place. It will be 9 days between ceasing the doxycycline and the day the blood will be taken. Will the drug have cleared my system and so not interfere with the blood test by then.

Hi,

The eilimination half life (50% clearance from the system) of doxycycline is between 16 to 22 hours (for healthy adults). It takes 5.5 x elimination half life (hours) before a drug is completely cleared from your system.

So if we take the maximum elimination half life of 22 hours, it would take 121 hours that is approximately 5 days (5.5 x 22 hours) before the medicine is eliminated from the body.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
