General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, Thanks for asking. Implanon is a contraceptive that is an effective way ti avoid pregnancy... & when taken out hormones get out of your system completely within veryfew days &possibility of conception starts right away. Weight gain is one of the side effect of all hormonal contrraceptives.... but as for implanon is concetened.. where it disappears from body after removal of device in short period..... the weight gain is due to the contraceptive alone ... it should start declining eqally rapidlly. So it is concluded that weight can not be only because of device.. it is a combined effect of hormones&life atyle defects. In this respect I would suggest to twst for other causes of weight gain (like diabetes, pcod, thyroid problem) .. &get treatment as per need &Also have an ideal life style with restricted diet, exercises for weight loss. Thanks.
