General & Family Physician, Dr. Ina Zaimi's Response
Hello dear,
Thank you for your question and welcome to Healthcare Magic. I read your query and I understand your concern.
Methadone detection test results positive for a couple of days after the last use. Since it is a long acting drug, it metabolizes slowly and recedes from the receptors sites slowly. It means that when you take opiates in general, even short acting ones, the metabolites are going to stay longer in the blood. The clearance half-life of methadone averages 30 hours, which means that half of the dosage is cleared out via kidneys for 30 hours. Methadone typically can be detected in urine for 2-4 days after use and its detection could be up to 7 days some times up 12 days. The longest detection time period is from the hair sample, which could detect methadone use up to 90 days.
Hope I helped with my answer. For further concerns feel free to ask again.
Kind Regards, Dr. Ina
