Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been having VERY heavy periods, that led to a blood transfusion. During my last cycle I had to go to the ER because of how heavy it was. They prescribed four 5 mg tablets of norethindrone every 4 hours until it stopped, then 2 a day until I ran out. That was day 3, it didn t stop until day 7... and I ran out onbday 6. My hand and feet keep swelling up and I feel like I m itching from the inside out all over my body. How long will it take for this to flush out of my system?
Swelling of your hand & feet are due to anemia. Since you have a history of very heavy periods you are suggested to get clinically examined to detect cysts, polys, fibroid or endometriosis. You will have to get blood & imaging tests done. Your treatment (medicines & surgery) will depend on the severity of the pathology detected. Medicines get flushed out of the body after 18-20 hours of the last dose intake but it also depends on the half life of the medicines, the period & dose for which the medicine has been taken. If the medicine has affected the brain chemistry it may take weeks or months to get completely flushed out.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
