How Long Does Rabies Vaccination Stay Effectively In The System?

Hi Doctor, Last Sunday, 7 Feb, i was playing with my neighbor dog(2-3 month old). he bite on my hand and make a deep red mark but blood didn t came and today 10th Feb, He[puppy] died. In 2007, i took the Rabies vaccine. Can you please tell me, how long it will be safe to take vaccine ? Regards

I understand your concern and the situation.
When taken as a complete schedule on days 0,3, 7 and 14 the anti rabies vaccine will be effective for 2 - 5 years. However, the long-lasting immunity against rabies depends on immunological memory which can be demonstrated by a rapid antibody response to a booster dose. A booster dose may be recommended only if rabies virus neutralizing antibody titres fall to Hope this answers your query.
