How Long Does Ritalin Take To Show Effect?

My grandson has starting taking Ritalin 5mg 2xs per day ADHD. He was very hyper today. Talking a lot, running around and not being able to sit still. Is this something we need to be concerned with or does it take Ritalin a week or so to get into the system before he will settle down?

Hi,

ADHD needs a holistic team approach to management including parents, day care providers, school personnel, and health care providers, apart from drug treatment.

Usual dose: PO 5 mg before breakfast and lunch initially; In case of inadequate response - may have to increase by increments of 5 to 10 mg/wk up to 60 mg/day. One needs to discontinue drug periodically to assess behavior and determine the need to continue the drug.
