How Long Does Rocephin Take To Treat Bumps On Tongue?

saw my doctor yesterday with a red throat, tongue patches of red burning bumps, and ear is full of fluid. She gave me an antibiotic shot of Rocephin. Just wondering how long will it take for my tongue to clear up. It s not so bad in the morning but by night burns a lot.

Understanding your concern.

As per your query you have red throat, tongue patches of red burning bumps is because of papillitis. These occur when papillae become irritated and slightly swollen. They occur due to various reasons like stress , hormonal changes or acidic and spicy food . It generally doesn’t require treatment and clears up within two weeks. Rocephin as given to you will clear these bumps with in 3- 5 days, It can cause numbness of the tongue , lips, and throat. you should take vitamin supplements rich in vitamin B12 in diet. Do warm saline rinses 2-3 times a day . If condition doesn't get better in few days then consult oral pathologist for proper checkup and rule out condition like herpes or canker sore, Coat the blisters well will antiviral ointment containing Acyclovir. For pain and if you also have fever Tylenol can be taken. Maintain good oral hygiene and drink plenty of water.
