Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello. I had a transforaminal steroid injection in my lower back on the 23rd of December and have been tapering off tramadol since that time to see how successful the injection was and the last pill I took, 50mg, was one week ago. Is there still tramadol in my system and should I be expecting any withdrawal symptoms at this point.
I can understand your concern. Tramadol has a quality of eliminating faster in the urine. Its half-life is 6 to 7 hours, meaning 50% of the drug is eliminated in the urine within 6 to 7 hours. However, complete elimination may require up to 2 days. In addition, if you have taken Tramadol for long time, it stays in your system for about 4 days. So as one week has passed since your last dose of Tramadol, you might not have the drug or its effects in your system.
Regarding withdrawal symptoms, it is usually found that patients suffer from withdrawal symptoms when they stop using the drug after long term use. However, every patient and their body accepts the stopping of drug and its effects differently and it can not be said exactly how long you will suffer from withdrawal symptoms. Sometimes it may take months for the body to accept no more supply of Tramadol. You can consult your doctor if you are suffering from severe withdrawal symptoms who can give you supportive therapy to find relief.
I hope this answer helps you. Thank you for using HCM. I wish you feel better soon.
Best, Dr. Viraj Shah
