Hi Loann Tran,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I have read your description and understand your concern.
Coma is a state of
unconsciousness in which a person
- cannot be awakened
- fails to respond normally to painful stimuli, light, or sound
- lacks a normal wake-
sleep cycle and
- does not initiate voluntary actions.
From your description it appears that your father is partially comatose patient.
Coma would result from several causes like trauma, bleeding inside brain,
stroke,
uncontrolled diabetes mellitus,
hypoxia (oxygen deprivation) and infections.
Depending on the cause and the response to treatment, the outcome of the result is determined.
Treating the underlying cause and maintaining the vital parameters with normal organ functioning is the main line of management in such cases. Time duration of recovery from a state of coma is highly unpredictable.
Hence, the prognosis for a coma varies with each situation. The chances of a person's recovery depend on the cause of the coma, whether the problem can be corrected, and the duration of the coma.
Stay positive and hope for the best.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
