Stubbed toe with toenail off, saw Dr...X-ray, no broken bones, took nail off, cleaned and put nail back on...Said to soak in soapy water twice a day, put bactracyn on and cover. Days 1-3...Soaked in soapy water, but still saw oozing so Day 5-6...Tried Epsom salt and water. The puss seems gone but at the base of the nail bed, t is still tender, pink, and painful to touch. Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Perhaps the site is infected, that's why it is swollen, red, oozing, and painful. I would suggest you to take oral antibiotics, e.g., Amoxicillin or Cephalexin. Continue for a week. In addition, you can apply Bacitracin ointment, twice daily for a week. Keep the area open. Don't cover it with bandage. I think it should improve in a week.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Kakkar S.
