How Long Does A Tooth Infection Take To Heal?

My wisdom tooth has an infection and my dentist prescribed 2 different antibiotics to be taken over the course of 5 days:- Amoxicillin 250g ( 1 pill 3 times a day) and Metronidazole 400g ( 1 pill 3 times a day). Is 5 days long enough to clear the infection? I thought normally it was 7-10 days. Thanks.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

As per your complain as you have an infection in your wisdom tooth for which you are advised antibiotics Amoxicillin and Metronidazole for a period of 5 days..
Well, it is apropriate and we generally prescribe the antibiotics for tooth related infections for a period of 5 days only and a week or more if there is very severe infection..
So you need not to worry as the medication duration is appropriate..
Along with it you can also do warm saline gargles and gargle with antiseptic mouthwash..
If there is pain associated with it you can take anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
