Dr. My child 11 months old ..... From the beginning he was having cold ie cough sometimes rare, running nose , sometimes stuffy nose, n sneezing......now he is 11 months.... Had fever subsided but cold still cont.... He is taking cetrizine and amoxicilin syrup... Today is 4 the day of medicine but still it is not subsided...... Wen will it subside and y he gets frequently the cold.,.. In our family have an history of allergies..... Reply
Hello, Welcome to HCM, thank you for posting. I understand your concern. Cough and cold with running nose are commonly caused by virus. It is very common in primary school children.
Make sure your child has enough to drink. Low body fluid (dehydration) may develop if a child has a raised temperature (fever) and does not drink much.
Usually a bout of cold resolves in seven to ten days but some can last for up to three weeks.
Inhaling steam can also help relieve congestion and coughing. The safest way to do this with children is to sit in the bathroom with a hot shower/hot taps running.
Zinc supplements are known to reduce the severity of symptoms of cold. Vit C can also be given.
