How Long Does Conjunctivitis Infection Take To Heal?
My 7 month old developed what I believed to be conjunctivitis two nights ago. I was squinting breast milk into her eyes to try help clear it up. The gunk has reduced almost completely but her left eye is still quite red in the white part and now both her cheeks are red and warm and have an almost raised bumpy feel. Is this normal for conjunctivitis?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Dr. Ali's Response
the time taken by conjunctivitis to resolve depends on the type of conjunctivitis which can be allergic, bacterial or viral. if the discharge from eyes doesn't have pus in it then it can be allergic or viral both of which are self-limiting. if its allergic then remove the allergen and wash the eyes with distilled water. if its bacterial then use 1 drop besifloxacin ophthalmic solution 0.5% in effected eye twice daily. avoid using any steroid anti-inflammatory drops without prior consultation from an ophthalmologist. so if problem persists you can consult an ophthalmologist. thanks
