Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have just completed Amox-Clav 75mg 2x s/day. Prior to that I was on Prednisone for 12 days and Amoxicillin prior to that. So, since 6/23 I have been on some form of antibiotic. I don t want to risk catching anything. How long should I wait before exposing myself to potentially sick people? (I am still battling an inflammed chest wall and an acute flare of costochondritis. So I want to be careful.)
Costochondritis is an inflammation of the cartilage in the rib cage. You have been given proper medications in the form of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs. Some types of exercise can aggravate this condition which include running and weightlifting. Hence these activities need to be avoided. Once you’ve finished the prescribed treatment, you can gradually build up to your previous activity levels. Daily stretching can help relieve pain. Taking hot or cold therapy using a heating pad and ice would also help to overcome pain and speed up the recovery process. It would take about 4 to 6 weeks for complete recovery. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
