How Long Does Effect Of Cortisone Take To Leave The Body?
Hi I have gotten 7 cortisone injections in the past 6 months, and am now starting to bruise even when scratching. I have RA, take Enbrel since January. The Rheumy gave me 4 injections in my hips because of bursitis, and pain management specialist gave me 2 injection in my spine because I have spinal stenosis. I am 69. The last injection was this week for a nerve block in my ribs because I choked and had Heimlich and the saver broke my ribs. Now I am bruising. Done with cortisone because I don t want so easy bruising, how long does it take to have the cortisone leave my body?
Hi, As steroids work by decreasing inflamation ,and reduce body's own immune system by affecting white blood cells . Since steroids are given to you repeatedly for different causes ,in injection forms absorption is fast in blood so the overall metabolism of steroid tends to be fast. But repeated cortisone injections would have caused blood pressure, blood sugar and blood cells to the abnormal level. After stopping the steroids ,it can take 3 to 6 months to lower the effect of steroids.
Wish you best of health. Take care.
