How Long Does Fever And Chest Infection Take To Get Cured?
My grandson (2 years old) is sick and has fever ranging between 99-102.5. He is on high antibiotics but still the fever is there atleast twice a day. In last two days the fever goes away after 3 hrs. But starts in another 10 hrs. All his blood, urine, stool report are normal. His chest x-ray shows some sign of infection. How long can this fever last? In last two days he has been put onto piperacillin/tazobactam but no improvement yet. How long do you think before there is any improvement.
As per history provided by you,It seems your grandson is suffering from Pneumonia.
Pneumonia is a infection of the lung.It is caused by various pathogens like bacteria, viruses and fungs. So treat pneumonia first and foremost step is to find out offending organism by various laboratory tests like complete blood count, sputum gram stain and culture, blood culture and serological test. Once we get to know the offending organism and after giving appropriate antibiotics symptoms of pneumonia may resolve within 7-10 days.
Your grandson is already on good antibiotic that is piperacillin/tazobactam. So at present don't worry.
Happy to help you
Thank you
Regards, Dr.Om
