Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi i got my results on Monday that I have Gonorrhea and I am on medication atm. I had my test 2 weeks prior where I had symptoms for a week. during that initial test, he gave me antibiotics. all symptoms when away immediately. I just got informed someone I had sex with back in early march got a test and had gonorrhea. I looked up and it says symptoms can take up to 2-21 days before showing. it matched to when my symptoms showed. I also read it can lead to HIV. I want to know, during all this time before getting the right medicine, could I have HIV? I am going for a blood test next week. I also want to know if I have a higher chance of getting HIV after I am cured from gonorrhea or if that was if I was having sex while I have gonorrhea
Patients with gonorrhea have more chances of getting HIV. Mechanisms are not correctly known but HIV virus may infect immune cells which are already accumulated in genital area in STD patients. STD may cause skin lesions which may lead to entry of virus.
Gonorrhoea may be cured 1-2 weeks with antibiotic treatment. Please get it done, ELISA test gives results 4-6 weeks. You may also get a p24 test, viral RNA test etc., done. Please post the results, we guide you accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
