How Long Does Hematoma Last?

I was bitten by a dog one month ago on my right calf. Although the skin has healed, there is still a hematoma under the bite about the size of a golf ball. It hurts more often now--kind of a hard pang that fades after a minute or so. How long should the hematoma last?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi, if it has lasted for over a month you should consult a Doctor. Let him examine and see whether it is an organized hematoma or some infection. Either way it will require addressal by either medicines or otherwise. So please see your Doctor and let him decide. Usually, hematomas resolve over 2 to 3 weeks and should not last so long.
Take care,
Dr Rishi, New Delhi, India.
