How Long Does Herpes Infection Take To Resolve While On Medication?

hi, dr.  my mother who s age is 53 years old. she had a disease of harpiz in one side of the body in back shoulder and on the chest. she is in very painful condition. she is taking medicine also. i want to know how she can relief from pain & how much time to take the disease free from her body.

1. Going by your history about the site of occurence of 'herpes' probably looks like infection of Herpes Zoster (shingles) which also causes chicken pox, thus treatment duration is as follow:

A. Are the vesicles still erupting: If Yes,

. Herpex ointment locally × 4 hourly × 5 DAYS or till the vesicle eruption continues.

. Tab Herpex (Acyclovir) × 200 mg × 4 tablets (i.e. 800 mg) × 5 times/ day × 10 DAYS

PS. no point in giving these costly medicine if stage of eruption is already over.

B. Injection Neurobion 2cc IM × daily × 5 Inj.
. Capsule Becosules 1 twice daily × 1-2 MONTHS
. Course of Steroid : 5 mg thrice daily for 3 days then twice daily for 10 DAYS

C. For pain:
. Capaule Proxyvon/ Tab Fortwin or Injection Fortwin

D. As the vesicles dry up, stop Herpex ointmet and apply Calamine Lotion

PS. If vesicles show secondary infection, apply Soframycin or Neomycin Ointment

. Do not wear clothes over the lesion, avoid friction

E. Test for H.I.V. as Herpes is common in Immunocompromised patients.
