How Long Does It Take For Cipralex To Be Fully Eliminated From The Body, Once An Individual Stops Taking It?

Hello, How long does it take for Cipralex to be fully eliminated from the body, once an individual stops taking it? I am concerned about possible effects the drug could cause when I decide to become pregnant in the next five years or so. Thank you!

Hello,

Cipralex (escitalopram) is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor commonly prescribed in the treatment of major depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, generalized anxiety, and other conditions.

The elimination half-life of Cipralex is about 27-33 hours and is consistent with once-daily administration, it may take up to four weeks to be fully eliminated from the body.

Since you have decided to conceive in the next five years or so, Cipralex is not going to cause any harmful effects during your pregnancy.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
