I am the caretaker for my 88 year old mother who has dementia. She had been able to get up/down onto her walker and walk just fine, but this week, has become weak and trembles when she tries to stand and it starts a sort of panic attack. I took her to the ER and they said she has a UTI. Is leg weakness a symptom of a UTI with dementia in an elderly woman? They started her on an antibiotic and she had one dose last night and two today. How long does it usually take for the symptoms to improve?
Hi welcome to HCM Generally it takes 3 to 4 days to control the symptoms, it also depends on the type of antibiotic taken. For proper guidance of antibiotic please get urine culture and sensitivity done
thanks
