How Long Does It Take To Recover From Acute Pharyngitis, Tonsillitis And Sinusitis?

What s the typical time to recover from acute pharyngitis, acute tonsillitis, and acute sinusitis? I currently have all three. My primary care physician has me on amoxicillin, a steroid, and a sinus medication. I m a 63 yr. old female, 5 4 tall, 228 lbs. weight. I have a history of CVA, hypertension, high triglycerides, clinical depression, arthritis and type II diabetes; all are controlled with prescription meds, the diabetes with 500 mg once per day of metformin. I also take a number of vitamin & mineral supplements, and follow a low-carb, high fiber diet. I have lost 30 lbs. in the past 12 months, with minimum exercise. Leona

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Based on the severity of infection, you will recover from infections: acute pharyngitis, tonsillitis and sinusitis in 1 to 2 weeks. This also depends on the use of antibiotics and supportive care given. Proper antibiotic use for at least 3 to 5 days along with Betadine mouth gargling will help in early recovery. Amoxycillin and Clauvulanic acid combination can also be used.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
