How Long Does It Take To Reduce AST And ALT Levels?

How long does it take to reduce ast and alt levels? Mine are high. I started taking iron supplements recently and have been doing much exercise. It appears that these things may result in higher levels. Also, we are craft beer afficianados. I tend to binge on this, maybe 2, 3, or 4 on a weekend evening and then none for a week or two. Do I really need to quit doing this. My husband of 35 years really enjoys it and we have super active, generally healthy lifestyle? It is almost a quality of life thing.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It can be due to fatty infiltration of liver however viral serology should be done to rule out any infective cause. Drinking more water and avoiding alcohol for few months can be helpful.

It's better to get ultrasound liver to rule out any other structural changes as well. Silymarin has also some trials proving efficacious in that regard. Fat restrictions may also be needed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thank you.
