How Long Does Lymph Node Swelling Take To Get Cured?

Dear Doctor- My daughter has developed Lymph Node Swelling at her Left upper throat along with cold and cough since 23rd January 2011. She has been given antibiotic by the doctor after FNAC test revealed " The cytological features are in favour of acute suppurative Lymphodenites " . Doctor concluded that there is no TB and She had been given injection " GENTICYN " for six days two times alongwith antibiotic tablets. After few days swelling started reducing to some extent. After completion of the course it again started increasing. Subsequently, We took her to another doctor and Dr. suggested Blood Test and again FNAC. In her blood test ESR was found 51 mm/hr and FNAC report says " Stain for AFB-TB is negative. FNAC showing Nacrotising Granulomatous Inflamation. Comments: Tuberculosis is a possibility. After Mantoux test report of 15mm x 18mm Doctor started giving treatment for TB and prescribed AKT4 with benadon daily.Medicine started from 14.03.11 and after 1 week there is no reduction in swelling rather it increased slightly. My question: 1. Whether diagnosis is correct. 2. How long will it take to cure lymph node swelling completely. 3. In case swelling increases, whether same to be removed by operation or the same will start reducing after some time. Thanks.

Hi, dear
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern. You have lymphnode enlargement. FNAC suggest acute suppurative lymphadenitis. But you may have tuberculosis also. So in first test its just diagnosed as suppurative only. After clearing of infection it clear the tuberculosis. So your diagnosis seems to be correct. Moreover mountoux test also favour tuberculosis. You should take anti tuberculous treatment. It will subsideyour swelling within few weeks. No need for operation.

Hope I have answered your question, if you have doubt then I will be happy to answer. Thanks for using health care magic. Wish you a very good health.
