How Long Does Pain In Neck Last Post Intake Of Clindamycin?

I have a very painful mouth due to a tooth that needs a root canal. It started to be sensitive 4 days ago, then i went to the dentist 2 days ago because the pain kept moving down my jaw and into my neck. I have a large lump on the underneath and side of my neck. He put me on 300mg clindamycin 3x a day. i am on the 3rd day but still have alot of pain especially in my throat when i swallow. My fever and chills seemed to have gone away how long will the pain last? Is the antiobiotic working? Also what is the best overcounter med for pain?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that infection in tooth is due to dental abscess that is accumulation of pus below the root tips of tooth due to spread of infection from tooth to the area below root tips..

When the infection is severe and tooth is indicated for Root Canal treatment then the pain and infection will subside once the pus is drained off and for this the root canal treatment is to be initiated and a cavity will be made in the tooth and an escape way of pus will be formed and infection and pain both will start reducing..

I would suggest you to consult your dentist back and get Root Canal treatment started..

As of now take higher painkiller like TRAMADOL and do cool compresses over the swelling..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
